Abstract
The orange perches of New Zealand and Australia, referred to Lepidoperca pulchella (Waite), comprise a complex of six species, thus making a total of 10 species currently recognized within the genus. Descriptions, synonymies, illustrations, analyses of sexual dimorphism and sexual dichromatism, and distributions are given for L. pulchella (southeast Australia), L. caesiopercula (Whitley) comb. nov. and stat. nov. (east Australia), L. filamenta Roberts (south and southwest Australia), L. tasmanica Norman (Tasmania and southern New Zealand), L. inornata Regan (northern New Zealand) and L. aurantia sp.nov.(New Zealand). L. tasmanica and L. inornata are shown to be valid species despite only being known previously from the original descriptions. L. tasmanica is recorded from New Zealand for the first time. A key to the known species of Lepidoperca is provided. Keywords
