Abstract
The max. diffusing capacity of the lung for O2 was detd. in 21 normal subjects from 17 to 76 yrs. of age. There is a significant decrease in max. diffusing capacity with age, the relationship being descr. by the regression equation: [image] The findings are of interest in relation to the nature of the aging process. It is not unlikely that changes in the capillary bed of the lung in relation to age are similar to those occurring in other organs. organs. Data presented and the regression equation derived provide normal standards with which to compare findings in patients with pulmonary disease. Keywords
