Abstract
The pseudopotential perturbation theory of the dynamical properties of simple metals is applied for the first time to the calculation of the surface phonon spectrum. The results for Na(001) provide evidence of the importance of the nonlocal surface screening effects in the determination of the surface phonons. Keywords
