Abstract
In designing any new piece of equipment a choice has to be made from a number of alternatives. Rather than just enumerating the features incorporated in the IBM Type 701 Computer, an attempt is made to record the reasons for their choice. Emphasis is given to the features which are believed to be new. These include improved arithmetic and logical facilities, as well as the methods developed for controlling the extensive input and output equipment directly from the stored program.Keywords
