THE EFFECT OF HYPOTHALAMIC LESIONS ON GROWTH

Abstract
Bilateral electrolytic lesions in the superaoptic nucleus and the dorsal aspect of the optic tract in rats produced a retardation in growth with few other obvious effects and without apparent reduction in food uptake. Adrenotrophic and gonadotrophic function was unimpared and the glands were not effected. There were some indications of reduced thyroid function. There was no diabetes insipidus.
