Abstract
In a test of the Freudian theory of the daydream as a tension-reducing state it was expected that the greater the reported discrepancy between Self and Ideal-self, the greater the reported frequency of daydreaming. A significant and positive but low correlation obtained between the discrepancy score and daydream frequency, indicating some support for the Freudian theory of daydreams. Keywords
