Educational Placement of Graduates of Preschool Programs for Handicapped Children

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the current educational placement of graduates of preschool programs for handicapped children. Data were collected for 2,752 students from 22 school districts in two states. In one state approximately 30% of the graduates were placed in regular classrooms while in the other state 16% were found in regular classrooms. An analysis of the data by severity of disability revealed that approximately 80% of severely handicapped preschool graduates in both states were placed in self-contained special education classrooms.
