THE ROLE OF THE KIDNEY IN THE ETIOLOGY OF RENAL HYPERLIPEMIA 1

Abstract
The plasma lipid fractions of bilaterally nephrectomized dogs maintained for 14 days by intermittent peritoneal dialysis showed no significant change over control values. Highly significant increases in plasma lipid were noted in nephrectomized dogs without dialysis. It is concluded that renal hyperlipemia induced by bilateral nephrectomy is not the result of a loss in renal hormonal or renal lipid metabolic activity but the result of metabolic disturbances induced by the loss of renal excretory function.
