Regeneration of Liver in Lysine-Deficient, Partially Hepatectomized Rats.

Abstract
Mature female rats were maintained on a protein-free amino acid diet with or without supplementation with 13.8 g L-lysine/kg diet. After 2 weeks, about 55% of the livers were removed by partial hepatectomy and the rats were killed 8 days later. Lysine-deficient rats regenerated their livers and deposited, during recovery, about as much N in their livers/100 g of body weight as the lysine-supplemented rats, in spite of continued consumption of the lysine-deficient diet.
