Abstract
This research examined the effects of various containers on elver (Anguilla anguilla) adaptation to artificial food, growth, survival and cannibalism. Elvers maintained in round indoor containers grew faster but survival was lower than the elvers maintained in rectangular indoor containers. Cannibalism developed in round containers more frequently than in rectangular containers. The mortality which was measured by the amount of dead elvers found, was about the same in all the different shapes of indoor containers. Survival of elvers grown in outdoor containers was significantly lower than survival of those in indoor containers.
