LIPID STUDIES IN PATIENTS WITH ADVANCED DIABETIC ATHEROSCLEROSIS

Abstract
In a group of 24 elderly diabetic patients with advanced atherosclerosis, the following observations were made: (1) Serum total cholesterol, lipoproteins, cholesterol esters, and phospholipids varied over a wide range. The mean figure was higher than in a group of elderly nondiabetics in all categories. (2) Linear mathematical correlation was noted between the lipoprotein Sf10-20 values on the 1 hand, and total cholesterol and phospholipids on the other. (3) Choline and inositol produced no significant changes in the level of the serum lipids. (4) Testosterone propionate in some, but by no means in all instances, caused a fall in all of the lipid fractions.
