Abstract
The effects of ocular fixation on normal and pathological nystagmus are reviewed, and in particular the effect of opening the eyes during the caloric test is analyzed. The Ocular Fixation Index of Demanez was applied to the records of 100 patients, and the findings tend to confirm the usefulness of this Index as a means of distinguishing peripheral from central lesions. Keywords
