Transformation of Prothrombin into Thrombin

Abstract
The combined physical and chemical evidence strongly indicates that there exist a series of thrombin compounds possessing the ability to clot solutions of fibrinogen. The members of the series differ from each other not only in size-shape relationships but also in their content of carbo- hydrate and tyrosine. Presumably all originate through manipulation of prothrombin. The physical and chemical studies summarized here lead to certain general conclusions regarding other characteristics of prothrombin (and, therefore, thrombin).
