THE ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF BACTERIOPHAGE ACTIVE AGAINST THE DIPHTHERIA-LIKE CORYNEBACTERIA

Abstract
Seven bacteriophages active against corynebacteria were tested against 17 strains of diphtheria-like corynebacteria. Fifteen are sensitive to all 7 of the phages. Two strains are completely resistant to the 7 phages. Twenty-seven strains of Corynebacterium diphtheriae are resistant to the 7 phages. It is suggested that these data lend support to the hypothesis that the diphtheria-like corynebacteria form a group of corynebacteria distinct from C. diphtheriae.
