Pathologic StatesPrimary AldosteronismThere are several recent papers devoted to this syndrome101 , 102 and its association with abnormal renal function103 and electrocardiographic abnormalities.104 The clinical manifestations were first described by Conn and Louis105 and Conn.106 Moderate to severe hypertension was present in all 17 cases reviewed,107 108 109 110 111 112 113 114 115 116 117 118 119 120 121 122 123 124 and muscular weakness, often severe, occurred in all but 4.116 , 119 , 124 Edema was an unusual feature. Hypokalemia, which was observed in all cases, was usually accompanied by slight hypernatremia, hypochloremic alkalosis and occasional tetany.
