Nitzschia cylindroformis sp. nov., a common and abundant nanoplankton diatom of the eastern subarctic Pacific

Abstract
A new species of diatoms, intermediate between N. cylindrus (Grun.) Hasle and N. pseudonana Hasle is described. Differences in morphology of the spp. are outlined. The new species was recorded only between 37.degree. N and 53.degree. N in the Pacific Ocean; N. cylindrus is bipolar and N. pseudonana is cosmopolitan in distribution.
