Specific Serum-agglutination of Corpuscles (Collodion-pellets or Erythrocytes) Coated with Allergenic Material

Abstract
The blood of allergic individuals contains bivalent and (or) monovalent antibodies, directed against the causative allergen (wheat flour resp. pollen in the present investigation). These antibodies can be detected by serologic methods, such as direct agglutination test (bivalent antibodies) and Moreschi-Coombs-test (monovalent antibodies). The allergenic material was adsorbed either onto the surface of collodion pellets or onto the surface of erythrocytes. Sheep erythrocytes and erythrocytes of human beings belonging to blood group O have a low adsorbing capacity in se, which however can be greatly enhanced by pretreating them with subliminal concentrations of agglutinating antibodies, in the case of sheep corpuscles Forssman-antiserum and in that of human erythrocytes eel-serum.
