Magnetic Susceptibility as a Probe of the Atomic Ordering inFe3Al

Abstract

Measurements have been made of the susceptibility of ${\mathrm{Fe}}_3$Al in the temperature range $300°\mathrm{C}\lesssim T\lesssim 600°\mathrm{C}$, which encompasses both the magnetic transition ($T_c\cong 300°$C) and the order-disorder transition ($T_0\cong 530°$C.). It was found that various manifestations of the atomic ordering near $T_0$, e.g., the appearance of both long- and short-range order, are mirrored in the temperature dependence of the paramagnetic susceptibility.
