DETERMINATION OF THE TOTAL CHLORIDE CONTENT OF ANIMALS FOLLOWING ADMINISTRATION OF SODIUM BROMIDE

Abstract

Following the adm. of NaBr, the ratio [Br-]/[Cl- + Br-] was found to be constant for blood and body tissues. By quantitatively introducing known amounts of bromide into dogs, cats, and rabbits it was possible to estimate the total chloride content of these animals from blood halide analyses. Dogs, cats, and rabbits were found to contain respectively 1.18, 1.22 and 1.07 gs. of chloride per kg. body wt. The electrotitrimetric method was employed for determining bromide.
