Abstract
Acetate of thioctic acid reverses the inhibition of propionate for S. faecalis in the presence or absence of riboflavin. In the absence of riboflavin, L-lyxoflavin prevents the reversal of the inhibition of propionate by thioctic acid. Riboflavin overcomes the effect of L-lyxoflavin on thioctic acid reversal of the inhibition of propionate for S. faecalis. In the presence of increasing amts. of lyxoflavin, increased amts. of riboflavin are necessary to restore the reversal of the inhibition of propionate by thioctic acid, for S. faecalis indicating that L-lyxoflavin is inhibitory competitively to riboflavin in this system.
