EXPERIMENTAL PRODUCTION OF CARTILAGE DURING THE REPAIR OF FRACFURES OF THE SKULL VAULT IN RATS

Abstract
Bone defects were made in the vault of the skull of 102 rats, ages 3-34 days. By means of multiple cuts with a scalpel and by scraping the periosteum, it was possible to produce differentiation of cartilage as well as new bone in the reparative process. On the basis of preparations injected with India ink to show the vascular tree, it is postulated that ischemia induces formation of cartilage.
