Abstract
During the past decade a large number of articles have appeared in the literature which have documented computerized tomographic (CT) scan findings in aphasia. The present paper reviews the contribution of the CT scan to aphasiology. The localization of CT lesions associated with specific aphasia syndromes is described and the value of the CT scan as a localizing tool and as a prognostic indicator in aphasia is discussed. More recently introduced techniques of brain imaging such as magentic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography are outlined, and their relative advantages and disadvantages compared with CT scanning explained.
