Abstract
Using the concept of the complex band structure the scattering of conduction electrons by an intrinsic stacking fault in Cu was investigated. In order to match the solutions of the two half-crystals at the fault a bivariational procedure was applied which made the reflection coefficient stationary. It was found that apart from neck states the Bloch waves could penetrate the stacking fault with a rather small probability of being scattered. Keywords
