Prevention of Aortic Atherosclerosis in Rabbit by Intravenous Microcrystallized Estradiol Benzoate and Dextran(R)

Abstract
Intravenous administration of micro- crystals of estradiol benzoate was given 2 hours after an intravenous injection of dextran which was administered to reduce phagocytosis by liver and spleen cells. These procedures prevented development of atherosclerosis in cholesterol-fed rabbits. There were no significant changes in testicle and hypophysis weights. A predominating action of the injected estrogenic material on arterial tissues was suggested.
