Abstract
THE psychic and physiologic sequelae of the consumption of marihuana are of considerable medical interest. Although a substantial bibliography is available, it is frequently difficult to distinguish valid findings from anecdotal experiences. This report concerns what is known and what is unknown about marihuana.The first recorded information on the intoxicant potential of marihuana can be found in a pharmacopeia prepared for the Chinese Emperor Shen Nung, dated 2737 B.C.1 Multiple reports of the medical use of marihuana subsequently appeared in the Indian and Arabic literature, and, in 1840, W.
