Cross-correlation is a technique used to enhance signal over noise. The method is reviewed with specific references to chromatographic applications. The procedure by which pseudo random injection sequences are generated is detailed and explained, and examples using cross-correlation to regenerate the chromatogram are given. Typical applications of the technique in trace analysis and in process control are reviewed.
