Soil acidity is shown to differ from soil "sourness." The latter may be due to an increase in the (K + Na)/Ca ratio, or basic ratio, caused by leaching. A variety of factors may prevent normal plants from growing on "sour" soil. Data grouped into incidence curves, which are sometimes bimodal, require detailed analysis before general conclusions can be based on them.
