Phytoplankton was collected at 25 stations between 43.degree.-62.degree. South latitudes along a longitude a few degrees west of Kerguelen Islands. The material consists of sedimented water samples, centrifugated water samples and fine-mesh net tows. Light microscopy was used for examination of the collection. The taxonomic position of 59 taxa of diatoms and 45 taxa of dinoflagellates is presented together with 52 illustrations. Their occurrence with respect to the Antarctic convergence is summarized. A new combination, Schimperiella oliverana, is introduced for the diatom Actinocyclus oliveranus O''Meara.
