Abstract
Electron microscope studies of sectioned Tetrahymena pyriformis during mating demonstrate the presence of well defined tubules between the conjugants which persist throughout the mating process. The tubules exist in sufficient numbers and size to permit the exchange of cytoplasmic particulates of dimensions up to 0.2u. The infraciliature is completely absent in the region of contact and is regenerated only after separation of the conjugants. Keywords
