Abstract
Three variations of the cavity model for determining the resonant frequencies of a rectangular microstrip antenna are compared. The results for each of the variations were experimentally verified by studying a set of patched antennas fed to excite different modes. The method's applicability to electrically thick rectangular microstrip antennas was also investigated. It is also shown that the uncertainties of the patches' dimensions and substrate properties can greatly affect the final result. Keywords
