Abstract
Multilayers consisting of thin Fe and Cr layers were prepared on MgO(100) and glass substrates by alternate deposition in ultrahigh vacuum. It is confirmed that the giant magnetoresistive change found by Baibich et al. in Fe/Cr multilayers on GaAs(100) substrates is reproduced in both types of samples. The resistivity of the Fe(27 Å)/Cr(12 Å) multilayer on MgO is reduced by 37% by applying 7 kOe at 77 K and 13% at 300 K. A sample on a glass substrate also shows a resistivity change of 27% with 7 kOe at 77 K.Keywords
