Cure of the Cachexia Following Hypophysectomy by Administration of the Growth Hormone and Its Relation to the Resulting Adreno-Cortical Repair

Abstract
Administration of the growth hormone of the hypophysis gives prompt, uniform relief from the cachexia of hypophysectomized rats together with repair of the thyroid and adrenals. Only the genitals retain the hypophysectomized condition. In contrast, even large doses of gonad stimulating hormone (growth-free) do not show these effects. Disappearance of the cachexia parallels adrenal repair and the two may be causally related.
