Production of Persistent Hypertension Induced in the Rabbit by Occlusion of Arteries Supplying the Brain

Abstract

Persistent hypertension, with a tendency to progression, remains for as long as 8 months after limiting blood flow to the brain of rabbits. In these expts. the carotid sinus does not appear to be a factor. When the carotid sinuses are excised in rabbits the ensuing hypertension is not entirely due to the buffer nerve mechanism. The results may be due entirely to interference with cerebral blood flow.
