Antenatal dexamethasone and decreased severity of retinopathy of prematurity.

Abstract
RETINOPATHY OF prematurity (ROP) is a serious vasoproliferative disorder faced by the smallest infants in the modern neonatal intensive care unit. Improved technologies have led the way toward improving the survival of small infants at earlier gestational ages.1 Improving the quality of survival and long-term outcome is of utmost importance. Serious visual problems and blindness continue to be included in the long-term neurologic sequelae of these infants.2,3 As survival of these small infants improves, the causes and treatment of ROP must be addressed or visual outcome will continue to be a problem.
