Abstract
A dog was made severely diabetic by partial pancreatectomy at the age of 2 yrs. For 12 yrs. he was controlled on a high protein, low fat, low carbohydrate diet with daily injns. of 30-40 units of regular insulin in divided doses. His body wt. was limited to 20 lbs. by strict caloric restriction. He had several severe hypoglycemic reactions each yr. Death was due to a walled off peritoneal abscess. At autopsy there was no evidence of arteriosclerosis. Whether the absence of arteriosclerosis was due to strict control of diabetes, fat restriction, or total caloric restriction can be decided only by further experimentation along this line. Keywords
