The quantitative evaluation of echo-sounder signals from fish

Abstract

The possibility of calibration is discussed, depending upon the effects of transducer, propagation, medium and electronic circuits. Calculations are made of the signal strengths expected from fish of given acoustic back-scattering cross-sections and these are compared with experimental results at sea under good weather conditions. This paper is an introduction to a programme of research. Twenty-four references.
