Abstract
This review covers the behaviour, growth and development of the queen, drone and worker honeybee reared in the colony. The period before the cell is capped over is described under the headings egg stage and ‘feeding’ larval stage; the period after capping is divided into the following stages: ‘spinning’ larval, prepupal, pupal, imaginal. Factors are discussed which affect the rate of development, and the weight of the bee finally emerging from the cell. Keywords
