Evaluation of Molecular Quadrupole Moments from Microwave Line Breadths. II. Experimental

Abstract
An improved microwave spectroscope has been used to determine the effect of O2, N2, CO2, and H2 in broadening the J=3→3 inversion line of ammonia. An accurate evaluation of the molecular quadrupole moments of these gases was obtained from the measured collision diameters of 4.32, 5.64, 7.45, and 3.28 A units, respectively.
