Egg Froth Distribution and Deposition by Enchenopa binotata (Homoptera: Membracidae

Abstract

There have been various reports on the distribution of adult membracids upon their host plants. Funkhouser (1917) observed that membracids generally prefer younger plants; the tree-inhabiting species are most likely to be found on saplings, or, if on older trees, on the youngest twigs. Most forms stay close to the ground, and even those species that live on trees of considerable size are usually on branches not over 20 ft from the ground. Dennis (1964) studied 21 species of membracids and found them distributed throughout the tree. He also observed that they have a decided preference for the smaller branches and leaves of the tree. There are no data on the distribution of egg masses.
