Single-Configuration Calculations on Excited States of Helium

Abstract
The best one‐configuration wavefunctions for several excited states of helium have been found. The error in the energy obtained varies from 0.5% to 1.0% of the binding energy of the outer electron. The method used is shown to give a rigorous upper bound to the excited‐state energy.Keywords
