MYXEDEMA COMA

Abstract
This complication of myxedema is described in an 80 year old woman. Twenty-three cases have been previously reported. It occurs most often in women who have become progressively myxedematous over a period of several years. The prognosis is poor with only 5 reported survivals, dispite a wide variety of therapeutic measures. The use of intravenous, rapid acting thyroid preparations merits trial in these cases.
