Effect of Convulsant and Anticonvulsant Agents on the Activity of Cytochrome Oxidase.

Abstract

The effect of convulsant and anticonvulsant agents on the activity of cytochrome oxidase was investigated by the method of Schneider and Potter. (Jour. Biol. Chem. 149: 217. 1943.). The activity of cytochrome oxidase increased in the presence of convulsant agent (acetyl-choline, caffeine, camphor, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, methyl salicylate, pentamethylenetetrazol, picrotoxin, scilliroside and strychnine) in concn. of 1 x 10-3 [image]_and less. The activity of cytochrome oxidase was not significantly modified by the anticonvulsant agents used in concns. of 1 x 10-3 [image].
