Abstract
Use of the Vitallium Moore prosthesis in 190 acute fractures has been discussed. Operative indications have been presented. Modifications of Austin Moore's original technique have been described. Using the specific indications listed, I have been pleased with primary prosthetic arthroplasty for acute fractures of the femoral neck. Results of this operation are encouraging and success is directly proportional to the surgeon's wisdom in selecting cases, operative skill, and understanding of physiological and mechanical problems, combined with prolonged proper postoperative management.
