Abstract
A new technique is presented for determining the refractive-index profile of a single-mode optical fiber. The profile is calculated from the measurement of the near-field mode pattern by a new equation derived from the scalar wave equation, A result of computer simulation shows that the method is useful for practical use in measurement systems. Keywords
