The Relationship of the Frequencies of White Cell Antibodies and Red Cell Antibodies in the Sera of Multiparous Women

Abstract
In 1584 gravid females examined for the presence of leukoagglutinins 25.6% of all of the sera contained agglutinating antibodies to white cells. The frequency of these varied in direct proportion to the degree of parity of the women. A sample of 720 sera were tested for the presence of both white cell and red cell antibodies. Since there was no relationship between the production of the 2 types of antibodies the transplacental leakage of fetal erythrocytes and leukocytes and material isoimmunization with these antigens is likely to be a random event.
