Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in a high selenium environment

Abstract
During a 10 yr period, 4 cases of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis were found in a sparsely populated county (population 4000) in west-central South Dakota [USA]. The patients were unrelated male farmer-ranchers between 57-66 yr of age, living within a 15 km radius of each other.
