Abstract
Thermodynamic functions to the second order in terms of the nearest‐neighbor interactions are derived for a multicomponent system. Expressions for the energy of mixing ΔE, the excess free energy GE, and the partial excess free energy of mixing of the component r, , are derived. The expressions are an improvement over the regular solution model, particularly in calculating phase boundaries.
