Abstract
Median effective doses and relative potencies were determined in vaginal smear tests in the rat and mouse for dimethylstilboestrol (DMS) and diethylstilboestrol (DES). These were done by injection or orally, and the relative potency of DMS in terms of DES varied from 0.0004 to 0.0165 according to species and route of administration. Comparison with the antifertility effects of these compounds in the same species by the same routes of administration lends support to the conclusion, also indicated in other studies, that in both cases the antifertility action is due to estrogenic activity.
