THE “PRE—SHOCK” STAGE OF MASSIVE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION RESULTS OF TREATMENT WITH ARTERIAL COUNTERPULSATION

Abstract
Six patients with massive myocardial infarction in a “pre‐shock” condition were treated with arterial counterpulsation. Prognostic Indices Indicated a mortality risk greater than 50%. Counterpulsation was continued for an average of 5·7 days. Complications of infarction were relieved within four days and were subsequently controlled after cessation of mechanical assistance. There were no deaths In hospital and all patients were ambulant and welt when discharged, on an average of 26 days after admission to hospital.Keywords
