USE OF SUCROSE PREPARATORY TO SURGICAL TREATMENT OF GLAUCOMA

Abstract

The preparation of patients who require surgical treatment for glaucoma is as important as that of patients with any other condition which requires operation in which an inclosed cavity of the body is unable to dispose properly of an excess of the products which normally occupy it. Methods are employed to relieve the distention of the bowel in cases of obstruction, or of the urinary bladder in cases of prostatic hypertrophy, and to reduce the intracranial pressure in cases of disease or trauma that is attended by an increase of contents before surgical treatment is undertaken. An attempt is made to decompress the engorged viscus slowly so that no damage may be done to the vascular channels supplying it.
